The protected areas of the Terres de l'Ebre are the ideal setting to learn about the natural environment. The diversity of environments and ecosystems result in a multitude of species of flora and fauna, here you can discover some of the most beautiful landscapes of Catalonia.

The Natural Park of Delta del Ebro, the most important wetland in Catalonia and the second most important of the Spanish State, is an area of great biodiversity. You can see 60% of the European bird species. Distinguishing species are the seagull Audouin (with a population that represents 70% of the amount worldwide), the canastera, the bittern, squacco, the moor... and of course, a lot of ducks, flamingos and coots. Enjoy the interpretive centers and network of viewpoints that are located next to the lagoons of the delta, or be guided through the territory accompanied by expert guides. Visit and discover the richness of this natural area on foot, by bicycle, or terrain vehicles.... An interesting suggestion is to do a photo safari through the delta, to capture the best shots of this magical place.

The Serra del Montsià, parallel to the coast of Sant Carles de la Rapita, has a length of 20 km and a width of 6 km. One of the most popular peaks in this mountain range is the Foradada, with a height of almost 700 m above sea level. From this point you can get the best views of the Ebro Delta and learn about the flora and fauna of the Mediterranean forest.

If you wish to extend your visit, you should not miss the Natural Park dels Ports, an area of great ecological interest. Here you'll find over a thousand species of plants and, if careful, you can see the ibex (Capra pyrenaica Hispanica), a symbol of this nature. To visit this limestone area a few kilometers from the delta is absolutely recommended. For in-depth knowledge visit the information centers of the Natural Park, located in the municipalities of La Sénia (Montsià), Roquetes (Baix Ebre) and Horta de Sant Joan (Terra Alta).

Before leaving Terres de l'Ebre it is necessary to pay attention to the Ebro River. This is the largest river in terms of volume in the Iberian Peninsula and the only major peninsular river which flows into the Mediterranean, forms the structure of the territory. Discover the riverside forests, the "galatxos, river islands and the life within it. To enjoy this environment we recommend the kayak, a mean of transport that enables you to discover the flora and fauna of the river in complete safety and freedom.
